Other Sites of Interest for Scouting Skills

Rachel, a student in Ms. Ward's class in Delaware, was looking for web content to assist in upgrading their classroom's website.  While searching "outdoor activities" she came across our "Links" page.  Happy with her find, and as a requirement for "borrowing" our content for their website, she in turn searched the web to find and share a useful resource for us.  Thank you Rachel, and the students of Ms. Ward's class, for helping the Boy Scouts of Troop20 to "Be Prepared" by offering this useful site on knots.   Click here to see Rachel's link, "A Guide to Tying Knots"

Kristin, an Assistant Scoutmaster for another Scout Troop (somewhere in the USA) found our website and suggested we add this site called "Insure You Can Save a Life!" - http://www.lifeinsure.com/life-insurance-tips/insure_you_can_save_a_life.asp

Merit Badge Resources - http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Scouting/BSA
At the above site, you can click the actual Merit Badge Title and see the requirements expanded in detail (if available).  Next to the Merit Badge Title links are links to the Merit Badge Worksheets, the first "Requirements" link is to boyscouttrail.com and the second "Requirements" link is to meritbadge.com

Merit Badge Passports - http://www.relia.net/~thedane/passports.html
At the above site, you can print out handy 4" x 5" passports which were designed to help scouts keep all information, sketches, graphs and reports in one place.  They vary in length from 8 to 32 pages.  You'll need Adobe Acrobat© Reader to view and print them.

  • How to Assemble the Passports:
  • Passports are printed two per page, one on top of the other.
  • 1) Print the odd pages first. Click on FILE, PRINT, and change the print selection box to ODD PAGES ONLY.  Now click on the OK box at the bottom.
  • 2) Replace the papers back in the printer so the backs will be printed on.  Be careful that the paper is loaded so page 1 is first, page 3 is second, page 5 is third, etc. Click on FILE, PRINT, changing the print selection box to EVEN PAGES ONLY.  Now click on the OK box.
  • 3) Carefully arrange packets in proper numerical order.
  • 4) Cut papers across the middle (see red 5-1/2" line in example at left) to separate into two separate passports.
  • 5) Fold and staple twice down the middle with a wide-mouth stapler.
  • NOTE: Some find it easier to just print the pages out, and then copy them front to back in the proper order on a copy machine!
